Barr St Park

Project Details

Barr St Park is on Sandy Creek, after it passes through Tarragindi Recreation Reserve.  From Barr St Park, Sandy Creek joins the main stream of Norman Creek and then continues to Arnwood Place.

Current involvement

Barr St Park now has well-vegetated lower banks, which are enjoyed by Dusky Moorhens and Buff-banded Rails. Work is now being carried out under the “What’s Your Nature?” project to plant shrubs and small trees, to fill in a gap in the local ecosystem. Council’s weed control team has wiped out a big patch of glycine, a weedy vine, and replaced it with some native trees, which Arnwood Place Bushcare Group is currently looking after.

Background of the project

Natural Channel Design work and bank stabilisation was carried out here in 2007, and about 15,000 groundcovers were planted, in a $50,000 project funded by a Federal Government grant. Planting was done by three volunteers and some Conservation Volunteers.  It was hoped that more trees and shrubs would be planted on the upper banks, but at the time Council was not in favour of that.

Future of the project

It is hoped that current planting work will create habitat for small birds.

Project contact details

Barr St Park is part of the Arnwood Place Habitat Brisbane bushcare site, and they will be visiting the site to carry out maintenance.  Council weed control contractors also visit several times each year.  Check out our Facebook page.
