Balis St Park
Balis St Park can be considered a secret park of Brisbane. Nestled between Marshal Rd and Sterculia Ave, it has its own bushcare group. The park hosts a plethora of native flora and fauna, such as turtles and Powerful Owl.
Baylis St Park Bushcare group meets on the first Sunday of the month, 8:00-11:00am. Meet at the junction of the paths from Sterculia and Balis Sts, Holland Park West. Take a short amble down the path to Albert St if needed, just look and listen for lots of activity. For COVID purposes, please bring your own gloves. Project Details
Balis St Park has been maintained monthly by a bushcare group since late 2020. The group performs maintenance through clearing invasive species, planting native flora and removing rubbish. Their efforts have assisted in the recent regeneration and expansion of native flora.
The park’s shrubby vegetation is host to birds such as the Pale Vented Bush Hen. Hard Quandong (or Elaeocarpus grandis) is a tall tree that serves as shelter for possums, protecting them against their predator, the Powerful Owl.
